Japan-Beijing/Shanghai route Celebrating the 35th anniversary of Japan-China flights On 29 September 1974, a Douglas DC-8 jet airliner with a logo of a crane painted on its fin landed on Beijing International Airport, marking the start of Sino-Japanese friendship. After that, JAL launched regular flights that link up Japan with Beijing and Shanghai. Over the past 35 years, JAL has been spreading its wings with new routes that closely connect Japan with major cities in China.
